Helping the Survivors of Genocide Rebuild Their Lives
Empowering war-affected communities in Wolkait-Tegede-Telemt of the Amhara region of Ethiopia through hope, healing, and development.
Welcome!
Maikadra Foundation is a non-profit public organization established in response to the devastating effects of the war in Northwest Ethiopia in particular but also lends our support to all survivors.
We are excited to participate in the 2025 Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America (ESFNA) event happening in Seattle!
This is more than just a sports and culture event — it’s an incredible opportunity to connect, raise awareness, and fundraise for survivors of genocide in Wolkait-Tegede-Telemt and the greater Amhara region.

On November 9, 2020, the town of Maikadra in Ethiopia's Wokait-Tegede Setit Humera Zone became the site of one of the deadliest massacres in the country’s recent history.
Over 1600 ethnic Amhara civilians were brutally killed by a Tigrayan youth militia group known as “Samri,” with the support of local security forces. Victims were targeted based on their ethnicity and killed with machetes, knives, and blunt weapons in an act of premeditated violence.
Independent investigations by human rights organizations and international media have confirmed that the massacre was part of a broader campaign of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement in the region. Survivors continue to live with deep trauma, having lost family members, homes, and any sense of safety. Maikadra Foundation exists to honor their memory, support the survivors, and help rebuild what was lost.
Our researchers love what they do, and that's what makes them so special.
Our collaboration with the University of Gondar has been instrumental in identifying the community’s needs and providing targeted support. The coordination committee, formed with the University’s research team, has been meeting regularly to evaluate and strategize our interventions.
